Frequently Asked Questions

R

How Often Should a Furnace Filter Be Changed?

If you are using a pleat filter, it should be changed every 2 to 3 months. If the furnace has a dust stop filter, the filter will need to be changed monthly.

R

What Happens to the Furnace if the Filter Does not Get Changed Enough?

If the filter is dirty, less air will move over the heat exchangers and will cause it to overheat. If this happens, the built-in safeties on the furnace will shut it down before it can do any damage to your home.

R

Why Should I Choose a Lennox Product?

Lennox Industries stands behind their products and warranties. They have been in the furnace business for over 100 years, and lead the industry in technological advances while developing products that are more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

R

What is Preventative Maintenance and What Does it Include?

Preventative Maintenance is a program we offer to check and service your heating or cooling equipment to avoid any problems that may arise from the equipment not being kept in peak operating condition. For furnaces, this involves visual inspection of the chimney and heat exchanger, testing of the igniting equipment, testing of the controls, checking belts and filters, cleaning and oiling of the motors, and checking the blower operation. With air conditioning systems, it involves checking the furnace filter, blowing out the condenser, removing debris from around the compressor, and checking the unit pressures.

R

How Big of an Air Conditioning System Do I Need for my House?

As a general rule, we recommend 1 ton for every 400 to 600 square feet.

R

What Should I Do If I Smell Natural Gas?

You should call SaskEnergy immediately. We recommend opening windows and doors to air out the house. If the smell is very strong, leave your house and wait for SaskEnergy to arrive.

R

Why Should I Choose a Programmable Thermostat?

A programmable thermostat is designed to change temperature settings at specified times and dates. Depending on the type and complexity of the thermostat, it can tell you everything from when your filter needs changing to the outdoor temperature. Not all programmable thermostats are compatible with all furnaces. By setting your temperature back for nights and unoccupied periods, you can save on the expense of heating your home more than necessary.

Roof Top Heaters

Roof Top Heaters

Rooftop heaters are typically powered by natural gas and provide an efficient source of heat. They do not always need to be installed on the roof; these heaters can also be installed on concrete pads at ground level. This is especially helpful for commercial applications and buildings that have pitched roofs or several stories. The same high quality ducts and other components we see in indoor systems are also used in our rooftop heaters. These heaters will be installed in a completely weatherproof, sturdy enclosure to make sure it doesn’t get damaged from the elements. SaskWest also offers maintenance and repairs on current rooftop systems. Be sure to call the professional mechanics at our shop to request our services right away!
